Presentation of SEDELAN Print E-mail

The SEDELAN is an editorial office that publishes documents in officially recognised native languages of Burkina Faso. It is based in Koudougou and was set up in 1998 by Father Maurice Oudet of MISSIONARIES FOR AFRICA to respond to the need for information among the rural populations.

In the close to 8000 villages of Burkina Faso the number of farmers who can read documents in French is very low. It is true that many villagers have made the effort to learn reading, writing and calculating in their native language. But all too often their effort is not rewarded, since they will find little or no reading material in that language.

Therefore, since 1998, the SEDELAN publishes a magazine in moore and one in jula and various other documents in those two languages,  as well as material  in fulfulde, lyele, dagara, lobiri, nuni, bwamu, samo …   The SEDELAN is also available to all farmers’ organisations wishing to publish a document in any other of the nearly 60 local languages of Burkina Faso.
