Where is the future of african cotton?

In July 2004, the WTO member states, putting in place a cotton sub-committee were involved in treating the problem in an ambitious, rapid and specific manner. Nowadays, it appears that it is a matter of manoeuvring in cheating the vigilance of African states. In fact, as it is written in the Newsletter n. 26 of IDEAS centre Geneva :

“The last twelve months starting from July were a total loss for cotton”.

The attitude of rich states is simply scandalous. When they are asked to correct such kind of injustice, they respond: what will you give us in exchange?

African states did not wish to raise complaint against United States and Europe, which violate WTO rules. They simply asked these states to stop their criminal practices (here, many cotton producers no longer have means of caring for themselves. Some die due to lack of care). The attitude of rich countries is similar to that of a well-known guilty rapist, but who is left in liberty and he asks!

“What will you give me to stop raping your daughters and women?”

Embarrassing!

Those who would like to know more about this question and ask themselves how I got this information or where I based myself to write this article abc Burkina n. 147, are invited to visit the site: www.ideascentre.ch together with the previous Newsletter n° 26
